4 Singles (and Possibly a 5th) and a Full Album Releasing This Year!

How did this happen? Here is the honest answer: I was writing my debut novel — and a few other novels and wips — and somewhere in the middle of it I wrote a song for the book. Then I wrote a couple more. And here we are, with a bunch of singles and a full length musical... and a neglected book draft.

Will my debut novel still publish during the first few months of 2027? Only time will tell. I do think that November's writing challenge will help that be achieved. But I digress.

The new songs! Let's talk about them!

80 Days with Mr. Fogg

This section will have spoilers for Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne so if you haven't read it yet, you have been warned. And might I suggest that you read it? It's a wonderful story. I may only be a little biased seeing as I wrote 20+ songs based on it.

Now with the spoiler warning out of the way.... Of all the upcoming releases, I have to talk about the musical first because that is what I am most excited about! After I finished making the song Lesser are the Ghosts (I'll talk about that more later) and it went so well, I thought "What if I made a song from one of my favourite classic books that is in the public domain?" and so I re-opened Around the World in 80 Days and started playing around with some lyrics for a song that Aouda might sing. I wondered what she might sing about in regards to Fogg--the man who saved her life. Specifically I was curious as to what she might be thinking after proposing to him. They had been through so much together and after returning to London without a pound to Fogg's name, they are now engaged. I pondered this and created the song 'He Does Not Hurry'. I then felt that Fogg deserved a song before that so I wrote 'The Sum Will Not Reach' and on and on until the 26 songs were completed.

The entire soundtrack is set to come out on the 6th of November. I will be releasing three singles from the soundtrack until then.

The first one tonight at midnight (2nd October Pacific time) is titled 'Around the World in 80 Days' and is the opening number to the entire musical. On the 2nd of October in 1872, Andrew Stuart and the other Reform Club members discuss that the Daily Telegraph claims a person can go around the world in 80 days. They doubt such a thing is possible. Mr. Phileas Fogg says it is quite doable. The wager is made, Fogg leaves for the train, and the end of the song remains.

The second single is 'Kiouni' (track 6) and will release on 23rd Oct--the very day that Mr. Fogg purchases Kiouni the elephant. Naturally, the song is about Kiouni the elephant. It is sung by Passepartout and--in my opinion--is one of the catchiest songs on the whole album. It also has a reprise (track 8).

The last single is 'She Is Not in the File' (track 9). This is sung by Mr. Fix--the man who is determined to arrest Phileas Fogg for the theft of £55,000. This will release on the 25th of October which is the very date that Fix spotted Fogg, Passepartout, and Aouda entering the Rangoon.

And then of course on the 6th of November, the 154th anniversary of the day the first instalment appeared in Le Temps, the full soundtrack for the musical will be released. I will be sharing the full track list soon along with loads of sneak peeks on my socials (I've already posted a sneak peek of the song 'Inspector Fix' on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts). I'll probably also be making more blog posts about the songs as the days go on. After all, Phileas Fogg is leaving for his trip tomorrow on the Dover Train at 9pm.

ExtraOrdinary — 2 October

A fun R&B song, and the only one on this list I did not write on my own.

I wrote it with my good friend Brighton Aussie. She wrote and released her first single over a week ago called 'Faithify' and then immediately started working on her next song. It was about as much fun to write as it is to listen to!

Lesser are the Ghosts — 9 October

This one is from a children's Halloween book I am working on. The book will not be out this year. Alas, I did not make the deadline. But the first draft is done! So it is very likely that it will be releasing September 2027... I shall continue to make updates about that next year.

As for the song, I couldn't resist posting at least one song from the book (as of the first draft, there are four songs). It is a Halloween song of course but it isn't a scary one. It is a song about not being afraid. When I was little some of the Halloween decorations and costumes in our neighbourhood were quite frightening to me. I wrote this song as something I hope can give children comfort and courage during the particularly spooky moments of Halloween time.

Not For Lack of Love — 16 October

This one is built on a moment from Little Women. Specifically chapter 35 when Laurie proposes. It is such an emotional scene and I love that Jo stood her ground and made the best decision for both of them.

There is actually another project related to this song that I am working on... more on that in a future post.

Merry Christmas, My Friend — 20 November

Having decided to release a song from the Halloween book I am working on, it seemed only fair to release one from the Christmas book I am also working on. This is the life of a writer... at least so I have witnessed online (seriously, all the memes about wips and distracting new ideas are so relatable!)

It opens a story set in 1844 and it is sung by a group of children in London. It is the first song of that book because I wanted the audience to be familiar with the tune and the lyrics before it reappears later. That is the whole reason I wrote a new carol instead of borrowing an old one. And fortunately, it doesn't spoil anything about the story! Although now that you know it takes place in London 1844... you may have a guess as to what it might be about.

Miss Arizona — no date yet

This is another one I cannot share much about yet because it is associated with a project that is yet to be released. But it is likely it will release SOMETIME by the end of the year.

One hint I can give is

that it is based in the time of the American Wild West... That is all I shall share for now.

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoy the songs!

Question: What is your favourite musical and why?
